PVC compound granules: rigid and flexible

PVC on its own is a powder that needs stabilisers, lubricants and, for soft products, plasticisers before it can be processed. A PVC compound arrives with all of that mixed in and pelletised. Pakistan produces PVC resin locally, and many cable and hose makers compound in-house. Ready compound is useful for smaller plants, for special colours and hardnesses, and as a second source.

Rigid or flexible

• Rigid PVC (Shore D 70 to 85): profiles, pipe fittings, conduit and trunking, sheet.
• Semi-rigid (Shore A 90 to Shore D 50): profiles with soft parts, edge banding.
• Flexible PVC (Shore A 55 to 90): cable insulation and sheathing, hoses, shoe soles, gaskets.

The values above are typical ranges. The exact hardness, density and additive package are agreed for each order.

What to specify

• Application and process: cable, hose, profile, injection or footwear
• Hardness and tolerance
• Colour: natural, black, white or matched to a sample
• Plasticiser type, including phthalate-free if your customer requires it
• The standard the finished product must pass

Processing

PVC degrades if it is overheated or held too long in the barrel. Keep melt temperatures moderate, usually 160 to 190 °C depending on hardness, and avoid dead spots in dies. Purge before long stops.

Quality points

• Check hardness and density on the lot certificate.
• For cable, check volume resistivity and the ageing tests your cable standard requires.
• For food-contact or toy products, confirm the plasticiser and stabiliser system meet the rules your customer follows.
• Store bags out of direct sun; some flexible compounds can stick together in heat.

Ordering and delivery

Material leaves Iran in the producer’s original bags on pallets. Buyers in Pakistan can receive it by sea through Karachi or Port Qasim, or by road through Taftan. Route, packing and Incoterm are agreed order by order, because they depend on quantity, city and timing. Each shipment comes with a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin.
