Polypropylene granules from Iran – buyer’s guide for Pakistan

Pakistan imports all of its polypropylene – roughly as much as its polyethylene. The largest uses are raffia for woven sacks, injection moulding for furniture and packaging, fibre and nonwovens, and PPRC plumbing pipe. Rabin Polymer supplies prime Iranian PP grades for each of these processes, with a datasheet and an open specification table for every grade.

Why melt flow matters for PP

PP grades are separated mainly by melt flow. Raffia tape needs a low MFR (about 2–5) so the film can be slit and stretched; fibre and thin-wall injection need a high MFR (20–30); pipe and sheet need a very low MFR for melt strength. Using a fibre grade with MFR 25 on a raffia line will break the tapes – always match the grade code and MFR to your process.

Homopolymer, impact copolymer or random copolymer?

  • Homopolymer: stiff and economical – raffia, fibre, general injection.
  • Impact copolymer: tough at low temperature – chairs, crates, buckets.
  • Random copolymer: clear and flexible – transparent containers and PPRC pipe.

Market overview

The largest single use of PP in Pakistan is raffia for woven sacks – cement, fertiliser, rice, sugar and flour are all packed in PP bags. Injection moulding for furniture and packaging comes next, followed by nonwovens, fibre and PPRC pipe. Karachi and Lahore are the main trading centres, and PP rates move with regional propylene prices and freight.

What to check before you buy

  • The grade code and MFR must match your process – raffia, fibre, injection and pipe grades are not interchangeable.
  • Homopolymer or copolymer – important for impact strength.
  • Lot certificate values against the datasheet.
  • Original producer bags, dry and undamaged on pallets.

Grade notes

PP HP550J – PP HP550J is a polypropylene homopolymer particularly suitable for film yarn (raffia), monofilament and sheet for thermoforming. Films are converted into stretched tapes for woven sacks, carpet backing, industrial fabrics and artificial grass, or into twines and ropes. Suitable for food contact. Key strengths: raffia & tape grade, good mechanical properties, good processability. In Pakistan it is used for woven sacks for cement, fertiliser, rice, sugar and flour, FIBC bags and strapping.

PP 440L – PP 440L is a medium-flow heterophasic copolymer with an improved balance of mechanical properties: high stiffness and outstanding low-temperature impact strength for injection moulding. It delivers about 35% higher toughness than conventional copolymers of the same MFR and rigidity. Key strengths: high stiffness, outstanding low-temp impact, ≈ 35% higher toughness. In Pakistan it is used for plastic chairs and tables, crates, buckets and impact-resistant housewares.

PP 548R – PP 548R is a nucleated, antistatic, high-fluidity heterophasic copolymer for thin-wall injection moulding. Items show high stiffness, good impact resistance and excellent antistatic behaviour; excellent mouldability and short cycle times allow high productivity. Suitable for food contact. Key strengths: high fluidity, short cycles, high stiffness, excellent antistatic. In Pakistan it is used for thin-wall food containers, disposable cups, lids and fast-cycle packaging.

PP Z30S – PP Z30S is a high-melt-flow homopolymer for low-denier BCF, CF and staple fibres at medium to high spinning speeds. It offers high homogeneity, stable extrusion and a high stretch ratio, giving tough, resilient fibres. Suitable for food contact. Key strengths: high melt flow, stable extrusion, high stretch ratio. In Pakistan it is used for spunbond nonwoven fabric, staple fibre and multifilament yarn.

PP-R MR230C – PP-R MR230C is a polypropylene random copolymer designed for hot and cold water supply systems and industrial water conveyance. It offers excellent creep properties and processability by both extrusion and injection moulding. Key strengths: excellent creep resistance, hot & cold water, long-term heat ageing. In Pakistan it is used for PPRC hot and cold water pipes and fittings.

An impact copolymer such as PP 440L.

Who produces PP in Iran?

Iranian PP grades are produced by Jam Polypropylene (Jampilen), Shazand (Arak), Marun, Navid Zar Shimi and others; each product page lists the producers of that grade.

Is the material prime?

Yes – all PP grades on this site are prime, virgin material in the producer’s original 25 kg bags.
