GPPS (crystal polystyrene) gives excellent clarity, gloss and dimensional stability. It is used for disposable cups and cutlery, CD cases, transparent packaging, lighting diffusers and display parts, and is often blended with HIPS.

In Karachi rate lists this material is quoted as PS GPPS. Buyers often ask for it simply as prime GPPS dana. GPPS 1540 is prime, virgin material in the producer’s 25 kg bags, with the rate given CFR Karachi or for road delivery via Taftan.

GPPS 1540: clear polystyrene for packaging and disposables

General purpose polystyrene is the clearest commodity plastic after PMMA and costs far less. It is rigid, glossy and easy to process, which is why it shows up in disposable cups, plates and cutlery, CD-style cases, cosmetic jars and clear display packaging. Its main weakness is brittleness. For anything that will be dropped or flexed, blend it with HIPS or choose another resin.

Where GPPS 1540 fits

  • Injection moulding: cutlery, cups, cosmetic and pharmaceutical jars, toy parts. The melt flow of about 11 g/10 min fills thin walls easily.
  • Sheet extrusion: as the clear layer or as a stiffening part of a HIPS blend for thermoforming.
  • Thermoforming: clear lids and trays, where the grade’s fast forming cycle helps output.

Getting a clean, clear part

  • Dry at about 70 °C for 2 to 4 hours if granules have been stored in humid conditions.
  • Melt temperature 180 to 240 °C. Too hot and the part may yellow; too cold and you see flow lines.
  • Polish the mould surface. GPPS copies every scratch.
  • Keep GPPS regrind separate from HIPS regrind.

Reading the GPPS datasheet

Melt flow of about 11 g/10 min at 200 °C and 5 kg puts 1540 in the easy-flowing range, good for thin walls and fast cycles. A tensile modulus around 3100 MPa shows how stiff it is. Light transmission and haze matter for display packaging; GPPS 1540 is crystal clear and glossy.

Typical products in Pakistan

  • Disposable cups, glasses and cutlery for events and food service
  • Cosmetic jars and caps
  • Pharmaceutical containers
  • Clear lids and trays
  • Stationery such as rulers and pen bodies

When GPPS is the wrong choice

GPPS cracks under impact and softens around 90 to 100 °C. It is also attacked by many oils and solvents. For hot food, oily products or parts that will be dropped, look at HIPS, PP or another engineering resin.

Ordering and delivery

Material leaves Iran in the producer’s original bags on pallets. Buyers in Pakistan can receive it by sea through Karachi or Port Qasim, or by road through Taftan. Route, packing and Incoterm are agreed order by order, because they depend on quantity, city and timing. Each shipment comes with a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin.

For a rate, send the grade, the quantity and your city on WhatsApp or through the enquiry form. We reply within one business day.

Questions buyers ask

Why do my GPPS cups crack?

GPPS is brittle by nature. Thicker walls, rounded corners or a 10 to 30 percent HIPS addition all help.

Can GPPS be used for food packaging?

Yes, it is widely used. Ask for the food-contact statement for your lot.
