Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) has short-chain branching that gives much higher tensile, tear and puncture resistance than LDPE. Butene-based LLDPE is a cost-effective choice for stretch film, heavy-duty sacks, liners and blends.

LLDPE Film Grade

Available grades: LLDPE 209 and LLDPE 22B02.

In Pakistan LLDPE is often called LLD, and Karachi rate lists quote it as LLDPE Film. Our grades are prime, virgin dana in original producer bags.

LLDPE granules: tougher film at lower thickness

Linear low density polyethylene looks like LDPE on a datasheet, with a similar density, but it behaves very differently. Its straight molecular chains give much higher puncture and tear strength, so a converter can make the same bag thinner. In Pakistan LLDPE is used most in agricultural film, liners inside woven sacks, form-fill-seal sacks and as a blending partner for LDPE.

Butene or the melt index: what changes between grades

LLDPE 209 has a melt index of 0.9, which gives the best dart impact and puncture strength. It is the safer choice for heavy liners and sacks. LLDPE 22B02 runs at 2.0, so it flows more easily on older extruders and gives better gloss. Many plants use it as a 20 to 30 percent addition to LDPE.

Running LLDPE on an LDPE line

  • Start with a blend and raise the LLDPE share step by step. Motor load and melt pressure go up as you add it.
  • If the film surface turns rough (sharkskin), widen the die gap or add a small amount of processing-aid masterbatch.
  • Keep some LDPE in the blend when bubble stability is a problem.

See the LLDPE film grade page for a longer comparison.

Where LLDPE film goes in Pakistan

  • Tunnel and greenhouse film, mulch film
  • Liners inside woven PP sacks for fertiliser, sugar and flour
  • Form-fill-seal sacks
  • Heavy-duty bags and industrial liners
  • Lamination and blending with LDPE for stronger packaging film

Agriculture is a big driver. Liner and sack demand follows the fertiliser and sugar seasons, and greenhouse film orders rise before the planting seasons.

Processing basics

  • Melt temperature 190 to 230 °C, higher than LDPE.
  • A wider die gap than for LDPE reduces melt fracture.
  • Cool the bubble well; LLDPE needs more cooling capacity at the same output.

What changes when you blend

Adding LLDPE to LDPE raises puncture resistance, seal strength and elongation, so the film can be made thinner. It lowers clarity a little and needs more motor power. Most plants find their best ratio by running short trials: start at 20 percent and move up in steps of 10 percent, checking bubble stability and the film tests your customer asks for.

Ordering and delivery

Material leaves Iran in the producer’s original bags on pallets. Buyers in Pakistan can receive it by sea through Karachi or Port Qasim, or by road through Taftan. Route, packing and Incoterm are agreed order by order, because they depend on quantity, city and timing. Each shipment comes with a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin.

Questions buyers ask

Can I run 100 percent LLDPE?

Yes, on a line designed for it. On a standard LDPE line, a blend is usually easier and gives a more stable bubble.

Is LLDPE good for stretch film?

Stretch film needs cast-film LLDPE grades. Ask us if you need one; the two grades here are mainly for blown film.

Is LLDPE good for liners inside woven sacks?

Yes. 209 is a common choice because its puncture and dart strength protect the liner during filling and handling.
